Due to the very nature of the Web, a growing trend in site design is to offer multilingual options. A great example of this is the New Laguna Seca Raceway. With a venue including Formula One, Motorcycle and Classic Car events, their calendar can satisfy any race fan. Their site offers Event Information, Maps of the Track, and Camping information. You may also find ticket information and a boutique where you may purchase shirts, coffee mugs and other giftware carrying official Laguna Seca logos. The New Laguna Seca Raceway has not only presented some good information about the racing at their track, but the site is one that should be admired for its technical and design merits as well. Good job!
American Racing Scene has over 250 pages of IndyCar and NASCAR information; there's a lot of cool stuff here for race fans. Photographers David Schenk and Peter Burke have put together some great photo galleries; be patient for the downloads. The official NASCAR 1996 Racing Schedule is available, and is linked to results pages for races that have already run this year. This site presents a wealth of information about racing, and with so much content online, you can very easily spend more time than you intended!
If you want NASCAR information, might as well go straight to the source! NASCAR Online has a great site with nice graphics and a fast server— always a winning combination. With a chat room, event and broadcast schedules, Q&A for the drivers, and race fan surveys, this is indeed a very interactive site. With the latest News, Results, Team Standings and Profiles, you can learn everything you ever wanted to know about NASCAR Racing right here.
The source for IndyCar information? You guessed it, the PPG IndyCar World Series also runs a great site. With frequent updates to their News, it's simple to stay current on the latest events. To learn all about IndyCar Racing there are several links to information including the History of IndyCar Racing and other cool tidbits. A great place for cruising the Fast Lane, check out their links to Other Sites for links to a number of official racing sites.
A good place for more links is the ALSPORTS Home Page Racing Links. Short, sweet and simple: nice background, here's the list of links, go for it! Another good place for racing links is Hard Drive. But enough of auto racing, you say? Okay, how about links to auto manufacturers? Hard Drive's New Car Reviews and Manufacturers Links offer a wealth of them. From Audi to Volvo, they're all here. For a "CyberView" of cars, J.J. Gertler says of the '95 Chevy Blazer in their Real World Road Tests, "If the Impala SS is Darth Vader's daily driver (as Chevy advertising would have us believe), this is his weekend ride." There's good entertainment in here!
For motorcycle fans, an interesting site in the Netherlands is dedicated to the Kawasaki ZZ-R 1100/ZX-11 Ninja. This site is attractive, efficient and entertaining. One note: they use lots of tables but operate on an extremely fast server. Sound clips and videos are offered as Motorbike Stuff! along with lots of links to other motorcycle sites. From the ZZ-R/ZX Owner Registry, you can visit other owners around the world.
Motorcycle Online has everything from Daily News to Ask the Mechanic and Racing Information. As I live in Southern California and ride a Kawasaki 454 Ltd. (a cruiser, to those not familiar), I got a kick out of Billy Bartels' "Lane Splitting 101 or Another Reason to Envy Californians!". Billy says, "On the freeways of Los Angeles during rush hour, against the advice of our mothers, we have risked life and limb to bring you this special report." True dedication to your publisher's mission Billy, I live here, lane-split regularly during rush hour, and totally relate to your mother's fears!
If you like Exotic Cars, Classic Cars, Hot Rods or Wheelies, then Adventures Anywhere has what you're looking for. Offering action-packed photography and screen savers from Road & Track Magazine's Ron Perry, and Cycle World's Rich Chenet, this site (yes, my own) offers hundreds of pages of images from some of the world's leading adventure photographers.
In closing this month, I try to verify everything along the way, but once in a while something slips by. In my last article "Surfin' for Surfin' " I introduced you to Rick Doyle, a photographer for Surfer Magazine, yet got the magazine title wrong. Sorry, Rick! Next, I took you to see some of his Art Images at the La Jolla Surfing Web and was not aware that the computer imaging work was performed by Rick himself. Hey, at least I got it right when I said that you can purchase his screen savers online at Screen Team's Screen Saver Superstore! Rick, please accept this writer's humble apologies.
On that note, to all interested, June's "Surfin' For Surfin' " article had a great response. If you have favorite sites or an adventure sport you would like to see reviewed, send an email to me at adventures@rothmedia.com. I answer all messages.
